Webster Cavenee is distinguished for many seminal contributions to defining the genetic lesions in human cancer, determining their physiological significance and using such information for therapeutic approaches. Most of these discoveries were made over the past 28 years at The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research branches at McGill University and The University of California San Diego. In both locations, he was the founding Director and also Professor on the respective University faculty. His current interests include the malignant progression of astrocytic (brain) tumors, the role of DNA methylation in tumor initiation, the differentiation pathways of astrocytes and the role of fusion transcription factors in pediatric neoplasms.
