Human Centered Assistive Robotics

More 'Human Centered Assistive Robotics'

The 2nd joint symposium by the Korean Academy of Sciences (KAST) and the Leopoldina discusses key issues in the field of robotics with a special focus on human-centered assistive robotics.

Date: Monday, 27 to Tuesday, 28 October 2014
Location: Technische Universität München, Vorhoelzer Forum, Arcisstraße 21, 80333 München

Typical assistance robots will serve as co-workers in industrial production, especially assembly, and they will support humans, for example in elderly care, surgery and rehabilitation. These fields call for tight man-machine-cooperation with physical interaction requesting compliant and safe behaviour, easy programming and learning, and in many cases mobility and mobile manipulation including humanoid appearance. Renowned scientists from Germany and South Korea will address current trends in these fields of research and discuss possible options for future scientific cooperation.

KAST and Leopoldina

In May 2012, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding to highlight their strategic partnership. Within the framework of this cooperation agreement, high-profile joint symposia on topics of global relevance are organised on a regular basis. This year´s conference is organised under the joint leadership of Leopoldina member Professor Gerd Hirzinger, Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and Professor Z. Zenn Bien, Department of Electrical Engineering of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
