Workshop on "Transgenetic crops", April 2011

The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina is actively involved in the bilateral years for the promotion of science, technology and innovation that the Federal Ministry of Education and Research initiates every year. On April 16, 2012 Federal Minister of Science and Education Annette Schavan and the South African Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, opened the German-South African Year of Science 2012/2013 in Capetown.

The opening of the German-Russian Year of Education, Science and Innovation 2011/12 on 23 May 2011 in Moscow also provided an ideal opportunity for the Leopoldina to sign a cooperation agreement with the Russian Academy of Sciences. The two academies committed to providing workshops for young scientists and launching a series of lectures for members of both academies to be named "Leopoldina Lectures" in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Berlin, Halle and St. Petersburg.

The Leopoldina is also actively involved in bilateral "Germany Years" (Deutschlandjahre). For example, during the so called year "Germany and India 2011-2012 – Infinite Opportunities", the Leopoldina teamed up with the Indian National Science Academy to hold a conference on plant biology. The Leopoldina will also be actively involved in the "Days of India in Germany 2012/2013".
