Forschung

Claire Voisin is currently a Director of Research at CNRS, and at the Centre de mathématiques Laurent Schwartz. She defended her Ph.D. thesis in 1986 in Orsay (France), under Arnaud Beauville, and her Habilitation in 1989. She worked in various areas of Algebraic Geometry, including projective geometry of curves (syzygies), study of particular types of varieties (e.g. Hyper-Kähler), their period maps, hyperbolicity properties, and Chow groups, but her most important work concerns the topology of compact Kähler manifolds and complex projective manifolds. She worked on many of these topics via Hodge theory and the theory of Hodge structures introduced by Griffiths and Deligne. She used variations of Hodge structures to understand Chow groups of generic members of a family, and also to attack particular problems related to the Hodge conjecture. Finally, she developed the notion of polarized Hodge structure on cohomology algebras which appeared to be very restrictive in the Kähler and projective settings. She was awarded in 1992 the prize of the European Mathematical Society, and in 2003, the Sophie Germain prize of the Académie des Sciences de Paris (France). In 2008, she was awarded the Clay Research Award. She is a foreign member of the Istituto Lombardo (Italy) since 2006.
