Gerald Holton is Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics and of History of Science, Emeritus at Harvard University, a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and several European learned societies.  He served as President of the History of Science Society and on several U.S. National Commissions. His book publications include Thematic Origins of Scientific Thought; Einstein, History and Other Passions; Science and Anti-Science;  and Victory and Vexation in Science.
He was the founding Editor of two quarterly journals, Daedalus and Science, Society and Human Values, and member of the Editorial Committee of Collected Papers of Albert Einstein. His honors include the Sarton Medal, the Abraham Pais Prize of the American Physical Society, the J. D. Bernal Award of the Society for Social Study of Science, selection as the Herbert Spencer Lecturer at Oxford University, as the Jefferson Lecturer by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Ehrenkreuz 1. Klasse by the Republic of Austria.
