The Academy appoints working groups to develop statements and recommendations. Depending on the subject, the Leopoldina cooperates with other academies, scientific institutions and international partners.
The statements are compiled by independent experts and subsequently presented to politicians and the general public. This offers decision-makers and stakeholders in politics and society the scientific foundation on which to base discussions and policy measures. In addition, important issues for the future are identified and analyzed in order to determine ways of coping with future sociopolitical challenges from a scientific perspective.
The Leopoldina is in a position to freely and independently appoint scientists to the working groups. Working groups are staffed interdisciplinarily and any findings are subject to a peer review process before being published as an official statement.
