Brigitte Röder’s research investigates how the brain combines input across modalities (multisensory processes) and how learning plasticity changes when humans become adults. She has used behavioural, electrophysiological and brainimaging techniques and has provided evidence for both intramodal and crossmodal plasticity of the human brain and for sensitive phases for the acquisition of sensory-cognitive functions including spatial representations and language. Recent work at the University of Hamburg investigates how the brain changes during development when new functions are acquired, how developmental and adult plasticity interact and how to promote both developmental and adult plasticity in humans.
