The focus of Doris Koesling's research is the NO/cGMP-mediated signaling cascade which plays an important role in the cardiovascular and neuronal systems. Members of the signaling cascade like the NO-receptor guanylyl cyclase and phosphodiesterases are important drug targets. Whereas in the past she made important contributions to the elucidation of the molecular structure and regulatory properties of individual components, she is now primarily interested in the (patho)physiological impact of the signaling cascade which is studied in genetically modified 'knock-out' mouse lines.
