Eberhard Zeidler arbeitet auf dem Gebiet der mathematischen Physik. Er ist international bekannt durch sein  fünfbändiges Standardwerk "Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Its  Applications", 1986-92, das der mathematischen Untersuchung einer breiten Klasse von Systemen in der Natur gewidmet ist, die unendlich viele  Freiheitsgrade besitzen und unter Wechselwirkung stehen. Zurzeit arbeitet er an einer  sechsbändigen Monographie "Quantum Field Theory: A Bridge between Mathematicians and Physicists", das den aktuellen Stand zur Schaffung einer einheitlichen Theorie aller fundamentalen  Wechselwirkungen in der Natur beschreibt. Die ersten beiden Bände sind 2006 und 2008 erschienen. Im Jahre 1995 wurde er von der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zum Gründungsdirektor  des Max-Planck-Instituts für Mathematik in den Naturwissenschaften in Leipzig berufen, das er bis zum Jahr 2003 als geschäftsführender Direktor leitete.

Eberhard Zeidler works in the field of mathematical physics. He is well known by his five-volume monograph "Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Its Applications”, 1986-92, which studies mathematical methods for describing a broad class of systems in nature distinguished by an infinite number of degrees of freedom under interactions. At present, he is writing a 6-volume monograph entitled "Quantum Field Theory: A Bridge between Mathematicians and Physicists”,which describes the state of the art of creating a unified theory for all the fundamental forces acting  in nature. The first two volumes appeared in 2006 and 2008. In 1995, the Max Planck Society appointed him founding director of the Max Planck Institute of Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig. He was the acting director of this institute until 2003.
