Section: Surgery, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesiology
City: Beselin
Country: Germany
Publikationsliste Gottfried Benad (pdf)

Gottfried Benad is one of the German pioneers of anaesthesiology and intensive care. He contributed intensively to the developing process of anaesthesiology as an independent medical specialty in the GDR, which led in 1969 to full academic recognition of anaesthesiology through its inclusion in the training programmes of both medical and dental students and their state exams in East Germany. His scientific activities included mainly muscle relaxants and their electromyographic control, effects of various kinds of general anaesthesia on the haemodynamic system and the special problems of cardiac anaesthesia. At present his interest is focused on the history of anaesthesiology.
