He was one of the initiators of the introduction of molecular genetic techniques into gynecologic and obstetrical research and with his team he was particularly involved in the development of a multicentric network for familiar breast and ovarian cancer supported by the German Cancer Aid. Scientific projects were research on steroid hormone receptors in breast cancer, the initiation of systemic medical treatment in breast cancer as well as novel gene therapy concepts for gynecologic malignancies. Clinical research focused on stage-adapted surgical treatment of cancer of the vulva and the development of interdisciplinary surgical concepts for multi-organ involvement by gynecological malignancies in the pelvis.
