Research

Hans K. Schackert is a board certified surgeon and has been Head of the Department of Surgical Research at the Technische Universität Dresden since 1995. He has been interested in the elucidation of the genetic basis of various diseases including hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, hereditary breast cancer, brain tumours, Hirschsprung's disease, periodontitis and phobia. Together with human geneticists and clinicians he consults patients with hereditary tumours and performs predictive molecular diagnostics.

Next to his interest of a better understanding of the genetic basis of disease he would like to study the genetics underlying the skills of a gifted composer and, probably as a future project, he would like to study the requirements for composing superb music.
