Research

Hans Oberleithner is director of the Institute of Physiology II (General Physiology) at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster. His research is focused on mechanisms determining salt sensitivity of humans. Together with his team the following questions are addressed:

1. How does sodium act on the cardiovascular system?

2. What is the role of salt in the development of hypertension?

3. What is the role of the vascular system in the regulation of salt-water balance?

His goal is a translational medicine based on fundamental research including the development of useful methods for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He is currently working on a concept for the early detection of vascular salt sensitivity of humans.
