Harald Schicha has been the chair for nuclear medicine and is director of the department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Cologne from 1986 to 2011. The scientific focus is the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, the nuclear medicine diagnostics of heart and cancer disease and the development and application of new radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis and therapy. In the field of radiation medicine was published papers on risk-benefit analysis of examinations and treatments with ionizing radiation. At first was described by him the appearance of immunogenic hyperthyroidism after radioiodine therapy of thyroid autonomy and the assessment of reduced radiation risk in diagnostic use of ionizing radiation in patients with reduced life expectancy (prognosis adapted effective dose).
