Research

Helmut Kerl is currently Professor of Dermatology and Chairman emeritus at the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Graz, Austria. Since 2009 he is also Guest Professor at the Department of Dermatology, University of Zurich, Switzerland. He has authored over 500 scientific publications (first and senior author), several books on dermatology, and has delivered more than 500 lectures including several named lectureships throughout the world.

His research interests and main dermatological specialities are dermatopathology and cutaneous oncology. Helmut Kerl was one of the first to describe the early histopathological changes of malignant melanoma and made important contributions to a modern understanding of cutaneous lymphomas.
