Forschungsschwerpunkte: Genom, Genomforschung, Genomsequenzierung, Bioinformatik, International Human Genome Project

Huanming Yang ist Biologe und weltweit anerkannter Experte auf dem Gebiet der genetischen und genomischen Forschung. Seine Forschungsarbeit umfasst die Sequenzierung und Analyse des menschlichen Genoms, der menschlichen Genomvielfalt und der Evolution sowie ethische, rechtliche und soziale Aspekte im Zusammenhang mit der Genomforschung.

Yang gründete 1999 das Beijing Genomics Institute, die weltweit größte Forschungseinrichtung auf dem Gebiet der Genomforschung. Yang und sein Team des Beijing Genomics Institute haben entscheidende Beiträge etwa zum International Human Genome Project, zum International Human HapMap Project und zum 1000 Genome-Projekt geleistet. Dem Beijing Genomics Institute ist es zudem gelungen, in Verbindung mit diesen Forschungsprojekten eine Plattform einzurichten, die in großem Maßstab Genomsequenzierungen, effiziente Analysen der Bioinformatik und innovative Gesundheitsinitiativen auf dem Feld der Genetik liefert.
