Forschungsschwerpunkte: Telekommunikation, Digitalisierung, Internet, Mobilfunk, Architektur von Kommunikationsnetzen

Jörg Eberspächer forscht auf dem Gebiet der Telekommunikationsnetze. Besonderes Augenmerk legt er auf die Architekturen zukünftiger Netze, insbesondere des Internets und der Mobilfunknetze. Er treibt erfolgreich die Entwicklung sicherer und intelligenter Kommunikationsnetze und -systeme voran. Die rasche Entwicklung von Internet und Mobilfunk zum Internet der Dinge und Dienste prägen seine breit ausgerichtete Forschung und Lehre und spiegeln die hohe gesellschaftliche Relevanz und Innovationskraft seiner wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit. Eberspächer gelang es, neuartige Vermittlungsverfahren und -systeme für breitbandige optische und drahtlose Netze sowie selbstorganisierende Netze zu entwickeln sowie Methoden zur Planung von ausfallsicheren Netzen zu entwerfen.

Neben technologischen Konzepten gilt sein Interesse den Anwendungen digitaler Netze in unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie Verkehrssysteme, Gesundheitswesen, Energieversorgung und Produktion. Großen Wert legt Jörg Eberspächer auf den interdisziplinären Diskurs über neue Informationstechnologien, über ihre Chancen und Risiken und ihre gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen. Er berät als Emeritus Ministerien und Firmen.
