Lothar Pelz has served as extraordinary Professor of Medical Genetics (1986-1990) and as University Professor for Paediatrics at the University of Rostock (-2000). His main research was directed to clinical cytogenetics and genetics as well as to syndromatology and clinical anthropometry in paediatrics. After being retired, his interests have been focussed on paediatric history, especially on the so-called euthanasia during Nazi era, where he is particularly interested in the role of paediatricians within the complex political entanglements into Nazism.
He has been awarded by scientific prizes and honorary memberships.
