Research

Martin Wegener is a distinguished expert in the field of optics & photonics. The vast majority of his contributions came from Karlsruhe. There, he is heading the interdisciplinary DFG-Center for Functional Nanostructures (CFN) since 2001. He has pioneered experiments on quantum kinetic electron scattering in semiconductors using coherent femtosecond optical spectroscopy. Also, his group has demonstrated the first metamaterials operating at optical frequencies. Three-dimensional nanostructures for photonics are fabricated via direct laser writing – a technique which is now being commercialized via the spin-off company Nanoscribe GmbH.
