First at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, later as full professor at the University of Lübeck and more recently as director of the ENT department at the University Duisburg-Essen, Stephan Lang investigated the immunobiology of head and neck cancer. Inspired by a research fellowship at the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, he focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of immunosuppression in patients with head and neck cancer. His scientific work has always been complemented by clinical trials aimed at elucidating mechanisms of immune suppression in cancer patients or designed to test novel immunotherapeutic concepts for cancer treatment.
