Statement on good practice in evaluation of research

Leopoldina, Royal Society and Académie des sciences publish principles

The large increase in the size of the international scientific community, coupled with the desire to ensure the appropriate and efficient use of the substantial funding devoted to supporting scientific research, have understandably led to an increased emphasis on accountability and on the evaluation of both researchers, research activities and research projects. On this topic, the Leopoldina, the British Royal Society and the French Académie des sciences published a statement.

The Academies recommend to establish guidelines for the evaluation of scientific research and mainly individual researchers. Therefore, they formulate principles in the "Statement by three national academies on good practice in the evaluation of researchers and research programmes". The paper was handed over to EU-Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas in Brussels.
