Renewable energies, artificial intelligence, genome editing: these buzzwords stand for scientific discoveries and technological innovations which are already fundamentally changing our society. But what form should this change take? Quick and comprehensive access to the latest research is essential for informed discussion and responsible decision-making on this issue. We thus rightly expect the scientific community not just to develop new knowledge but also to create reliable channels for exchange with politicians and the public. Since 2008, the Leopoldina takes over this task at a national and an international level, in close collaboration with other academies and scientific institutions.
