Academies adress G7 countries with statements

The science academies of the G7 countries have joined together to address two of the most pressing issues of our time. The global Arctic is being profoundly transformed by climate change, with implications on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, affecting those who live on and from them. At the same time, the promises and challenges of the digital revolution continue to expand and change, making the precise character of our digital future profoundly uncertain.

The G7 Academies’ statements, "The Global Arctic: Sustainability of Communities in the Context of Changing Ocean Systems", and "Realizing Our Digital Future and Shaping its Impact on Knowledge, Industry, and the Workforce", propose principles for achieving impactful change.

The science academies of the G7 countries are advising heads of state and government for the annual summits for more than ten years. Before each summit, the academies look at urgent issues relating to the summit agenda that also carry wider implications and require a multilateral approach. In this year, the summit of the G7 states takes place on June 8 and 9 in Charlevoix, Canada.
