German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina – ten years of science based policy advice
On 14 July 2008 the Leopoldina was designated as the German National Academy of Sciences by the Joint Science Conference of the German federal and state governments. Since then it has worked together with the Union of German Academies of Sciences and Humanities and acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering in addressing the key challenges facing society. As a national academy it represents German science at the international level. “Working with our members from all over the world, we will continue with our commitment to making scientific expertise the basis of societal and political discourse,” proclaimed the Leopoldina President Prof. Dr. Jörg Hacker regarding the role of the national academy.
