SUMMARY:3rd German-Russian Young Researchers Forum
DESCRIPTION:The German-Russian Young Researchers Forum was initiated within
the “German-Russian Year of Education, Science and Innovation 2011/12”. Th
e two previous editions took place in Moscow (2011) and Halle/Saale (2012),
and brought together young scientists from Russia and Germany. The forum o
ffers a platform for dialogue, networking and interaction, covering a large
spectrum of topics reaching from science, research, innovation to science-
based advice, with common relevance for Germany, Russia and Europe. The for
thcoming third forum takes places in Bonn-Remagen, Cologne and Jülich, in t
he frame of the strategic cooperation “Germany and Russia – Partnership of
Ideas” as a follow-up action of the bilateral Year of Education, Science an
d Innovation 2011/2012.  Based on the success of past editions, this year’s
forum approaches three thematic clusters more closely: \n\nPresentations
and discussions on new, innovative research topics in an interdisciplinary
perspective;New opportunities for science-based advice on post-socialist tr
ansition and present transformation processes;Exchange of experiences on sc
ience policy, in the context of international cooperation, innovation and t
echnology transfer.\n\n The concept comprises three thematic workshops and
three high-profile panel discussions/science talks. They focus on the foll
owing main topics: (1) “Progress in Science and Challenges for Future Resea
rch”, (2) “Transition, Change, Cooperation” and (3) “Science Embeddedness”.
The introductory keynote lecture by Professor Donald B. Dingwell, Secretar
y-General of the European Research Council, entitled “European Research Cou
ncil: Making a Difference in Europe?” represents a first programme highligh
 t. The participating researchers were selected following an open call for p
articipation. Their background encompasses a broad subject area, from natur
al to social, engineering and medical science, sharing a distinctive multip
lier potential in their academic environments.Current issues and challenges
concerning science policy and management, internationalisation and interna
tionality, research cooperation and support, scientific excellency, etc. wi
ll be debated within distinctive panel discussions. The first panel will de
al with “Internationalisation of Research and Higher Education”, followed b
y a second one at the University of Cologne, with the participation of its
rector Professor Axel Freimuth, which focuses on “Instruments and Strategie
s of Science Policy and Research Support”. Subsequently, a practical progra
mme content followed by a science talk with prominent panellists about “Sci
ence Applied: Infrastructures, Innovations, Incubators” will take place at
the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The added value of the participation consists
of gaining an insight into the German, Russian and European science systems
as well as into the instruments of international cooperation. It offers ne
tworking opportunities and mutual knowledge exchange on cross-subject topic
