SUMMARY:Berlin Process Western Balkans 8th Joint Science Conference: Mut zu
 r Zukunft – Courage for Future
DESCRIPTION:The Berlin Process is an intergovernmental initiative which was
  started in 2014 by the German Federal Government to support the integratio
 n of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union and foster region
 al cooperation in Southeast Europe. It involves 16 European nations and the
  European Commission.\n\nSince 2015, the Berlin Process has included a dedi
 cated pillar on science, education, research, innovation and knowledge tran
 sfer. This is coordinated by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopol
 dina. The annual Berlin Process Joint Science Conference brings together st
 akeholders and experts involved in this pillar.\n\nThe Berlin Process is ce
 lebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and Germany is holding the rotati
 ng presidency. The 2024 Joint Science Conference will focus on two key topi
 cs:\n\n1.    Developing a joint position from scientific organisations in t
 he Western Balkans and Southeast Europe on the next EU Framework Programme 
 for Research and Innovation (FP10);\n\n2.    The “third mission” of scienti
 fic and cultural organisations to strengthen democracy and the European ide
 a in the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe, in response to rising ethnon
 ationalist and anti-European tendencies, and disinformation.\n\nThe confere
 nce aims to produce a Joint Statement with a set of conclusions and recomme
 ndations that will be fed into the 10th Western Balkans Summit of Heads of 
 State and Government. This is scheduled for 14 October 2024 in Berlin and t
 akes place upon the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.\n\nPartici
