SUMMARY:Cardiovascular Ageing: From Basic Science to Translation
DESCRIPTION:Cardiovascular diseases are the major cause of death in the ind
 ustrial nations especially in the elderly. Therefore, it is of scientific i
 nterest which part of the complete risk for cardiovascular diseases is base
 d on ageing in comparison with normal risk factors like smoking or hypercho
 lesterolemia.\n\nThus, it is important to understand the molecular and cell
 ular mechanisms of ageing. With this knowledge, new interventions can be de
 veloped to modify the ageing process and thereby postpone the onset of card
 iovascular diseases with the goal to increase the years of healthy life – t
 he healthspan – rather than only the lifespan.\n\nThe purpose of this meeti
 ng is (1) to discuss ageing as a modifiable risk factor of cardiovascular d
 iseases, (2) to promote communication among the world-wide community of ind
 ividuals engaged in ageing research and (3) to invite students to join this
  field of research.\n\nThe congress will be the 10th international meeting 
 on ageing in Halle (Saale) and will accompany the development of a focus on
  ageing research in Central-Germany. It will comprise invited talks and pos
 ter sessions. There will be no concurrent sessions.\n\nThe symposium is co-
 sponsored by the Leopoldina.\n\nFurther Information and Registration\n\nThe
  symposium addresses a professional audience and will be held in English. A
