SUMMARY:Epigenetics: Playing with the Game of Life
DESCRIPTION: Aging is an unavoidable part of life, characterized by a progr
essive decline in function and an increased risk of mortality. In model sys
tems, we have learned a lot about the mechanisms of aging and are able to m
odify health as well as lifespan by genetic, pharmacological or lifestyle i
nterventions. Accumulated evidence links aging to epigenetic alterations wi
th a high impact of the environment or the nutrition on health-span and dis
eases. Given the reversible nature of epigenetic mechanisms, these pathways
provide promising avenues for therapeutics against age-related decline and
disease. It will be the aim in the future to transfer such results to huma
ns.\n\nThe purpose of this meeting is to discuss aging as a modifiable risk
factor of diseases, to promote greater communication among the world-wide
community of individuals engaged in aging research and to invite young stud
ents to join this field of research.\n\nThe congress is the 9th internation
al meeting on aging in Halle (Saale). It comprises invited talks and poster
sessions. There are no concurrent sessions.\n\nThe symposium is co-sponsor
ed by the Leopoldina.\n\nPhoto: stevepb – Pixabay\n\nFURTHER INFORMATION AN
