SUMMARY:Expanding the Scope of CAR T Cell Therapy
DESCRIPTION:The onset of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cell therapy mar
ks a revolutionary development in the field of immunotherapy, achieving nota
ble success since its approval in 2017 for treating B cell malignan-cies. D
esigning a patient's own T cells to specifically identify and eradicate tumo
r cells has successfully treated individuals with previously incurable hema
tologic cancers.\n\nWhile CAR T cells are currently predominantly utilized
in anti-tumor therapy, their initial conceptualization aimed at a broader o
bjective of targeting membrane antigens, opening the door to numerous poten
tial applications. Subsequent studies have explored the application of CAR
T cells in non-malignant pathologies, encompassing autoimmune diseases, inf
ectious diseases, and more recently, conditions such as cardiac fibrosis and
cellular senescence.\n\nWithin this interdisciplinary discussion, we prese
nt key findings and implications of CAR-based therapies for non-malignant co
 nditions.\n\nFurther information and Registration\n\nThe interdisciplinary
discussion is registered as an training event with the Saxony-Anhalt Medica
l Association and is aimed at a professionally interested public.\n\nRegist
ration is closed.\n\nContact\n\nDr. Stefanie Bohley Department Science - Po
