SUMMARY:From Synapses to Circuits in Health and Disease
DESCRIPTION:The 6th Inter-Academy Symposium (IAS) of the German National Ac
 ademy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanit
 ies (Israel Academy) brings together distinguished scientists from Germany 
 and Israel. The participants discuss present research findings about the fu
 nction of nerve cells, synapses, as well as their interactions in nerve cel
 l clusters and circuits. Progress in these fields of research shall contrib
 ute to the development of new therapies for brain diseases such as Alzheime
 r’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, depression and schizophrenia.  German and
  Israeli young scientists participate in the symposium with poster presenta
 tions. For the first time, the best posters receive awards.  The 6th IAS “F
 rom Synapses to Circuits in Health and Disease” is a continuation of the In
 ter-Academy Symposium series in the field of neurosciences which is organis
 ed jointly by the Leopoldina and the Israel Academy. On the side of the Leo
 poldina, scientific coordinators of the symposium are Professor Peter Riede
 rer, Professor Helmut Kettenmann, Professor Peter Hegemann, Professor Arthu
 r Konnerth, Professor Ad Aertsen and Professor Dietmar Schmitz. Scientific 
 coordinators on side of the Israel Academy are Professor Yadin Dudai and Pr
 ofessor Israel Nelken. The German Neuroscience Society (Neurowissenschaftli
 che Gesellschaft e.V.) financially supports the participation of German you
