SUMMARY:Mind Matters More Than Money – Boosting Cognitive Competences for S
ustainable Development through Science and Education
DESCRIPTION:Following the presentation of the key messages of the Global Su
stainable Development Report (GSDR) at the HLPF, we invite you to a side ev
ent on “Mind Matters More Than Money – Boosting Cognitive Competences for S
ustainable Development through Science and Education”, organized by the Ger
man National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Independent Group of Sc
ientists of the United Nations in cooperation with the Finnish Environment
Institute SYKE, the University of the West Indies and the International Sci
ence Council. The side event is co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of Germ
any, Jamaica and Finland to the United Nations.\n\nTo strengthen the scienc
e-policy interface, we will bring together scientists and practitioners who
will discuss the lynchpin role of Sustainable Development Goal 4 for the i
mplementation of the 2030 Agenda. Providing inclusive and equitable quality
education should not only focus on formal training, but it should also aim
at fostering cognitive competences and motivational skills in general as w
ell as opportunities for lifelong learning. We will discuss how individuals
and communities can be enabled to make sound decisions conducive to sustai
nable development and facilitate a dialogue on governance and policy priori
ties in order to leave no one behind.\n\nPicture: Sisters of Design, Halle
