SUMMARY:New World Disorder – Germany’s and Europe’s Challenges and Opportun
ities for economic Competitiveness and new Technologies
DESCRIPTION:In recent decades, Germany and its export-orientated economy ha
ve benefited greatly from open and rule-based global trade. However, the ge
opolitical situation and thus the global economic conditions have changed d
ramatically in recent years. Politics is increasingly intervening in the gl
obalised world economy, with far-reaching consequences for trade as well as
the availability of energy and raw materials. In addition, there are struc
tural crises in Germany that are leading to a decline in industrial product
ion.\n\nHow can Germany and Europe maintain their innovative strength and c
ompetitiveness in the face of these challenges? These and other current geo
political and geo-economic issues will be discussed by representatives from
science, politics and business.\n\nThe symposium is an initiative of the L
eopoldina focus group ‘Climate and Energy’ under the direction of Ferdi Sch
üth ML and Robert Schlögl ML and is financially supported by the Alfried Kr
upp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation.\n\nML = Member of the Leopoldina\n\n
