SUMMARY:Science for Future: On the Path to Carbon Neutrality
DESCRIPTION:To achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, the world’
s largest industrialised nations must significantly reduce their carbon emi
ssions. China and Germany have also committed themselves to achieving carbo
n neutrality in the coming decades. This will require further basic researc
h, technological innovation and appropriate global policy frameworks.\n\nTh
e conference will discuss innovative approaches from both basic research an
d practical application, and will open up a dialogue on the strategies purs
ued in Germany and China to achieve carbon neutrality in the two countries.
In addition, the conference will provide a platform for the exchange of kn
owledge, ideas and experience among internationally renowned scientists fro
m a range of disciplines.\n\nIn 2018, the German National Academy of Scienc
es Leopoldina and the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the Science for
Future initiative with the aim of highlighting the important role of basic
research for society. The conference entitled On the Path to Carbon Neutral
ity is the second conference in this series.\n\nKeynote speakers:\n\nProf.
