SUMMARY:Environment and Health
DESCRIPTION:The Academy of Science of South Africa, the Ethiopian Academy o
 f Sciences, the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and the German National 
 Academy of Sciences Leopoldina organise a joint symposium on Environment an
 d Health from 1st to 3rd June 2015 in Pretoria, South Africa. The symposium
  will focus on the fields of air pollution, water pollution, metals exposur
 e and solar ultraviolet radiation. It will analyse key environmental challe
 nges and their implications for human health in Sub-Saharan Africa and Germ
 any in order to identify future research needs and to assess possible solut
 ions to current environmental health issues and how these can be mainstream
 ed into science, society and policymaking.  The scientific sessions will in
 clude talks and discussions as well as poster sessions with young scientist
 s from Sub-Sahara Africa and Germany.  On June 1, Prof. Jacqueline McGlade,
  Chief Scientist of the United Nations Environment Programme, will hold a p
 ublic keynote lecture on the topic: “Outlooks for a healthy planet and huma
 n well-being”.  The symposium is generously supported by the Volkswagen Fou
