SUMMARY:Human Centered Assistive Robotics
DESCRIPTION:Typical assistance robots will serve as co-workers in industria
l production, especially assembly, and they will support humans, for exampl
e in elderly care, surgery and rehabilitation. These fields call for tight
man-machine-cooperation with physical interaction requesting compliant and
safe behaviour, easy programming and learning, and in many cases mobility a
nd mobile manipulation including humanoid appearance. Renowned scientists f
rom Germany and South Korea will address current trends in these fields of
research and discuss possible options for future scientific cooperation.\n\
nKAST and Leopoldina\n\nIn May 2012, the German National Academy of Science
s Leopoldina and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology signed a Memo
randum of Understanding to highlight their strategic partnership. Within th
e framework of this cooperation agreement, high-profile joint symposia on t
opics of global relevance are organised on a regular basis. This year´s con
ference is organised under the joint leadership of Leopoldina member Profes
sor Gerd Hirzinger, Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics of the German A
erospace Center (DLR), and KAST member Professor Z. Zenn Bien, Department o
f Electrical Engineering of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Te
chnology (KAIST).\n\nFurther Information and Contact\n\nParticipation is by
invitation only. For further information please contact \n\nDr Ruth Narman
