SUMMARY:International Conference "Quantum Technology"
DESCRIPTION:The technological progress of the 20th century was driven by el
ectronics and photonics. At the beginning of the 21st century there is alre
ady substancial evidence that the use of coherence and entanglement of comp
osite quantum mechanical systems will propel technological applications. In
deed, today quantum mechanics is no longer restricted to physics but plays
an important role in many other disciplines such as chemistry, electrical e
ngineering, and mathematics. Quantum Science has emerged as a common denomi
nator than encompasses all key elements of these previously separate discip
lines. The purpose of this conference is to assemble a number of leading sc
ientists from various fields to present a wide range of quantum physics and
technological fields which are affected by quantum technology, from fundam
ental research (e.g. superconducting devices and biology) to real-world app
lications (e.g. communications, metrology and semiconductor technology). Ad
ditionally, there will be two panel discussions on the future of communicat
ions and on economic perspectives of quantum technologies. Contact:Dr Chris
