DESCRIPTION:In den letzten 30 Jahren haben Clostridium difficile-Infektione
 n ständigzugenommen. Darüberhinaus hat sich das Spektrum der C. difficile-I
 nfektion von einer Antibiotikum-assoziierten Diarrhoe zu einer lebensbedroh
 lichen fulminanten pseudomembranösen Colitis und Sepsis entwickelt. Es ist 
 deshalb nicht verwunderlich, dass alle Anstrengungen gemacht werden, die Di
 agnostik zu verbessern, die Epidemiologie der Erkrankung besser zu erfassen
 , die Virulenzfaktoren der Erreger besser zu erforschen und die verschieden
 en therapeutischen Möglichkeiten zu optimieren.Wegen der erheblichen Beeint
 rächtigung durch diese Infektionserkrankung hat die Internationale Gesellsc
 haft für Chemotherapie diese internationale Konferenz einberufen, um einen 
 intensiven wissenschaftlichen Gedankenaustausch zu ermöglichen.It appears t

 ons has continuously risen world-wide. Moreover, the spectrum of C.difficil
 e infection has evolved from antibiotic associated diarrhoea to lifethreate
 ning fulminant pseudo-membranous colitis and sepsis. Thus it is notsurprisi
 ng that considerable efforts were made to improve diagnosticprocedures, to 
 clarify the epidemiology of the disease, to elucidate thevirulence factors 
 associated with this micro-organism, and to study thevarious therapeutic op
 tions in the treatment of the patients.Because of the significant burden of
  the disease, the International Society ofChemotherapy has decided to offer
  a forum to discuss the currentknowledge in C. difficile infection.
