Prof. Ph.D.

Robert Eugene Page

Wahljahr: 2009
Sektion: Organismische und Evolutionäre Biologie
Stadt: Tempe
Land: USA

Forschung

Robert Page has contributed substantially to an understanding the evolutionary biology of social insects. He employed molecular markers and provided the first quantitative demonstration of low genetic relatedness in highly eusocial species. He proposed and experimentally validated a hypothesis for the evolution of polyandry based on genic sex determination. Robert Page pioneered genetic mapping in social insects by mapping quantitative trait loci for many behavioral and physiological traits. He and his colleagues isolated and validated the single complementary sex determination (csd) gene of the honeybee. Recent research in Dr. Page's laboratory revealed links between reproductive physiology and behavio, casting new light on the evolution of division of labor in honeybees.
