Forschung

Sir Hans is best known for his discovery of the Glyoxylate Cycle, a metabolic route that effects the net conversion of fatty acids to carbohydrates in many microorganisms and plant seeds, and for identifying (and coining the phrase) "anaplerotic sequences" in metabolism. He is currently studying the genetic control and biochemical mechanisms whereby fructose is utilized by E. coli.  
Sir Hans was Professor of Biochemistry in the University of Leicester (UK) from 1960 - 75, and in the University of Cambridge (UK) from 1975 - 95;  from 1982 - 95, he was also the 34th Master of Christ's College, Cambridge.
