As part of the bilateral celebration of “50 years German-Israeli diplomatic relations”, the Leopoldina and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (IASH) organize the joint symposium “Chemistry: The Central Science”. The symposium, coordinated by Prof. Dr. David Milstein, member of the IASH, and Prof. Dr. Helmut Schwarz, member of the Leopoldina, highlights the variety of chemistry and its importance for basic and applied research.
The talks of distinguished German and Israeli speakers cover a wide range of chemical sub-fields from DNA structures to material science and are addressed to scientists and the interested public. The evening keynote lectures are given by Nobel Laureates Prof. Dr. Gerhard Ertl, member of the Leopoldina, and Prof. Dr. Dan Shechtman, member of the IASH. The symposium is accompanied by festive elements honoring German-Israeli science cooperation.
