Side-Event in Cooperation with the Independent Group of Scientists at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

Datum: Donnerstag, 11. Juli 2019
Uhrzeit: 18:30 bis 20:00
Ort: Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations, Auditorium, 871 United Nations Plaza, New York City

Following the presentation of the key messages of the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) at the HLPF, we invite you to a side event on “Mind Matters More Than Money – Boosting Cognitive Competences for Sustainable Development through Science and Education”, organized by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Independent Group of Scientists of the United Nations in cooperation with the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, the University of the West Indies and the International Science Council. The side event is co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of Germany, Jamaica and Finland to the United Nations.

To strengthen the science-policy interface, we will bring together scientists and practitioners who will discuss the lynchpin role of Sustainable Development Goal 4 for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Providing inclusive and equitable quality education should not only focus on formal training, but it should also aim at fostering cognitive competences and motivational skills in general as well as opportunities for lifelong learning. We will discuss how individuals and communities can be enabled to make sound decisions conducive to sustainable development and facilitate a dialogue on governance and policy priorities in order to leave no one behind.
