The 8th Human Rights and Science Symposium is hosted and co-organised by the Académie des sciences (France). It belongs to a symposium series managed by the Human Rights Committee of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

The symposium focuses on the right to education, recognised by the United Nations Universal Declaration in 1948. It also strives to demonstrate the importance of human rights education to educate a wide audience, including students and high school students, to fight against discrimination of all natures, races, genders, religions, etc. The scientific coordinators of the symposium are Professors Jean Iliopoulos and Édouard Brézin, Co-chairs of the Committee for the Defense of Scientists’ Rights of the Académie des sciences (CODHOS), and Professor Hans-Peter Zenner ML, Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, Germany.
