Historical audio recordings of the Leopoldina

Selected Documents

The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has managed to restore and digitize about 160 magnetic audio tapes from its archive, preserving unique and endangered audio recordings dating from 1959 to 1991.

They contain talks given by renowned scientists who visited the Leopoldina within those years. Among them, eleven tapes with talks by the Leopoldina member Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker are to be mentioned. The entire holdings in magnetic audio tapes of the Leopoldina, comprising 395 hours of audio recordings altogether, are available for research in the form of digital files.

The digitized audio documents are to be used in the Leopoldina archive. Selected audio examples give an impression of the material (all in German language).
