Research
Research Priorities: Biological Imaging for radiation therapy planning and monitoring, Integration of High Precision Radiation Therapy, Radiotherapy and Immunotherapy, Digitization and Artificial Intelligence in Radiation Oncology
Anca Grosu is a Romanian-German radiation oncologist and cancer researcher. She focuses on biological imaging, precision radiation therapy, the immune system after radiation treatment, and digitalisation within the field of radiation oncology. She established innovative concepts around image-based precision radiation therapy and, together with her team, she has developed strategies with which to improve tumour treatment and reduce the side-effects of radiation treatments.
Biological imaging allows particularly aggressive areas of a tumour to be visualised. Modern techniques of precision radiation therapy (intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic radiation therapy) can be used to treat these areas with higher doses of radiation while protecting the surrounding, healthy tissue from the radiation. This leads to improved tumour treatment, reduces the rate of side effects, and ensures better quality of life for cancer patients.
Together with her team, Anca Grosu has systematically evaluated these methods in various clinical multi-centric international studies. The results of these studies have led to the definition of new global standards. Anca Grosu has been a pioneer when it comes to integrating biological imaging into radiation therapy planning and monitoring. These methods are paving the way toward personalised radiation treatments.
