The Leopoldina and the IASH are strengthening the continuous exchange on current research topics in various disciplines, the provision of scientific advice to politics and society and the promotion of young scientists. The cooperation is based on the "Strategic Partnership Agreement" signed in June 2022, which replaces the previous Memorandum of Understanding from 2013.

Israel is one of the world's leading science and research nations. Its science system includes renowned universities, a vibrant innovation and start-up scene and a competitive technology sector. The members of the IASH are among the country's outstanding researchers, including several Nobel Prize winners and members of the Leopoldina.

The two academies regularly organise joint scientific events. In the fields of energy research and development and digitalisation, they organised a trilateral format together with the US National Academy of Sciences. A series of symposia has been organised in the neurosciences since 2007; other symposia have been dedicated to issues in law, economics and digital humanities.

In terms of science policy, the two academies continuously coordinate on bilateral and European topics. They play a special role in science diplomacy, particularly in strengthening German-Israeli relations.

In spring 2025, they organised the central celebration to mark 60 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, in which the special role of science and culture as "unofficial diplomats" and pioneers of German-Jewish reconciliation was honoured.
