Informing and Experiencing
We want to communicate science in an understandable way and get people talking about it. In events, projects and formats for all age groups, the Leopoldina shares current knowledge, invites people to join in and creates spaces for discussion and encounters.

For schools and young people
We want to get young people interested in science. That's why we offer free programmes for young people and school classes.
Leopoldina live
Scientists visit your school. They report on their current research and talk to young people about their personal path into research. Perhaps a spark of their enthusiasm will be ignited? Are you interested in organising an event at your school? Please contact us.
Leo Tour - School classes visit the Leopoldina
School classes and youth groups can discover the Leopoldina on the Leo Tour, a 90-minute guided tour with action and discussion sections. Based on its history, we explain why science academies exist. We also talk about the importance of science and research for society. Are you interested? Please get in touch with us.
School cinema with House of Commons debate
As a prelude to the annual Silbersalz Science & Media Festival in Halle (Saale), the school cinema takes place in the main building of the Leopoldina. School classes watch a film together with scientists and then discuss it.
If you would like to be added to the e-mail distribution list for information for schools, please contact us.
Future Day
The Leopoldina takes part in Future Day (formerly Girls' Day/Boys' Day), which takes place every year in April. On this day, 12 young people from the 8th grade onwards are given the opportunity to find out about working in the various departments of the Leopoldina office. Individual registration and information on the current topic is always available from February at: www.girls-day.de or www.boys-day.de
Junior Science Camp
The Junior Science Camp is aimed at young people who have taken part in the first round of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) or have qualified for the quiz round via a state competition. It offers young people the opportunity to work intensively on scientific questions, prepare for the next round of the competition, make new contacts and experience joint activities in Halle (Saale). The camp is a co-operation with Orpheus e.V.

Student programme for the Annual General Meeting

This opportunity is open to all educational institutions that prepare students for university entrance. The student programme includes the following points:
- Attendance at the Leopoldina's annual meeting, where the young people can listen to lectures by renowned scientists from all over the world and talk to them in person
- Small group discussions with scientists from various disciplines on the topic of "Science as a profession"
- Visit to the Leopoldina archives and library, where young people can learn about the importance of academies in the science system and find out more about working with historical sources
- Experimental day at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and in the electron microscopy laboratory of the Bethge Foundations
- Varying annual activities such as a city rally
Would you like your school to be included in the pool of schools that receive a call for nominations for talented young people from your school? Please feel free to contact us. The programme is made possible by the kind support of the Leopoldina Freundeskreis e.V. and the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation
