The Accademia dei Lincei: A Pioneer of the Academy Tradition
The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei is Italy’s national academy and one of the oldest scientific academies in the world. With the learned academies of the Renaissance, Italy was a key point of origin for the European academy tradition. It is therefore no surprise that the Leopoldina and the Lincei have maintained a close partnership for many years. Italian scientists are also among the members of the Leopoldina.
Cooperation in International Policy Advice and Networks
Together, the Leopoldina and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei promote scientific exchange between Germany and Italy, organise high-level events, and collaborate in international policy advice, particularly in the context of joint G7 and G20 policy advice. In this framework, both academies contribute their expertise to statements and recommendations on global challenges and future-oriented issues.
Joint Engagement in International Networks
The Leopoldina and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei also coordinate their engagement in international networks in which both academies are represented. At the European level, these include EASAC and ALLEA; at the global level, IAP and ISC. In this way, both academies help to bring scientific perspectives into international debates and to strengthen the role of science in multilateral processes.
