Royal Society of Canada as the Principal Partner
The Royal Society of Canada is Canada’s national academy. Founded in 1882, it brings together outstanding figures from the country’s various academic disciplines.
Cooperation in G7 and G20 Policy Advice
The Leopoldina and the RSC work together in particular in the context of joint G7 and G20 policy advice. In 2025, the RSC held the lead role in the Science7 process. In this context, for example, the Leopoldina and the RSC co-hosted a panel discussion at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin in December 2024, with the participation of the other G7 academies.
An important outcome of the 2025 Science7 process was also the joint Ottawa Declaration of the G7 science academies, which emphasises the importance of academic freedom, scientific integrity, independent research institutions and responsible research.
Joint Engagement in International Networks
In international networks and forums in which both the Leopoldina and the RSC are represented, they coordinate their activities, contribute shared perspectives to debates, and provide impetus for a science-based engagement with global challenges.
