The Leopoldina and the US NAS have been working together as partners for many years, particularly in G7 and G20 policy advice. US scientists are also actively involved in the activities of the Leopoldina outside of joint projects. With over 100 members, they represent the largest group of international members of the Academy.
The NAS is one of the world's leading science academies and is part of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (US NASEM). Many members of the Leopoldina are also members of the US NAS.
Joint projects include workshops and symposia, often together with other partners - such as the trilateral German-Israeli-American conferences "Digitalisation and Democracy" (2021) and "Energy Solutions" (2023).
Together with the Polish Academy of Sciences, the British Royal Society and other partners, the US NAS and the Leopoldina support the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NANU) and Ukrainian researchers in exile and in Ukraine.
The Human Rights Committee of the Leopoldina is a member of the International Human Rights Network (IHRN), whose secretariat is based at the US NAS in Washington, D.C.
