In keeping with this quote, the archive and library are the guardians of the rich cultural heritage of the world's oldest academy of sciences and modern information service providers for members, researchers, and the public.

The Leopoldina's archive and library provide access to around 360 years of the academy's history and offer an extensive special collection on the history of natural sciences and medicine.

Use and Visit ▸
The archive and library are open to the public and can be used free of charge. The required literature can be borrowed or used in the reading room. Workstations and a free scanning facility are available in the reading room.

The archive and library use a variety of formats to communicate knowledge about the history of the Academy and the collections it holds. This is done, for example, through exhibitions, digitisation projects and events.

Current information
The Leopoldina reading room will close on 13 May 2026 from 12.30 pm. It will remain closed on 25 and 26 June 2026.
